1991年，法国芭蕾舞剧作家罗朗·佩蒂灵光乍现，由此创作了芭蕾舞剧《舞吧，卓别林》，喜剧之王卓别林一部部经典电影桥段以芭蕾舞的形式得到再现。在此后的岁月里，这出精彩剧目经久不衰，备受欢迎，也成为了男主角路易吉·波尼诺的代表作。2009年，曾执导《谈谈情，跳跳舞》、《变态家族》等作品而备受瞩目的作者导演周防正行决定将《舞吧，卓别林》搬上银幕。凭借这项计划，芭蕾舞女演员草刈民代（《谈谈情，跳跳舞》女主角，周防正行之妻）回归舞台，和老朋友路易吉再次携手，上演了一出全新的卓别林芭蕾舞剧。 公演前紧张10日排练，全部被收入摄像机之中……。聚焦里约热内卢贫民区的残酷故事，“魔鬼也会叹息着转身的地方”。这部新的剧集继续由电影版导演费尔南多·梅里尔斯打造，他透露：电影讲的是当地社区的缺陷，剧版则将讲述这些社区的力量。。It’s summer and a group of young women head off for a week to a house in the country in order to rehearse a play.
